Stoltzfus, John A. (1870-1957)
John A. Stoltzfus (b. 22 October 1870, d. 3 April 1957) was a lifelong resident of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and a farmer by occupation. He was married to Anna K. Stoltzfus, and they had nine children. After Anna's death, he married Amanda Beachy. John was ordained minister (28 April 1911) and bishop (25 April 1926).
John had been a leader of a group involuntarily leaving the Old Order Amish church over disagreements about application of the Meidung (avoidance) in 1909. By 1930 his congregation came to be known as the Weavertown Amish Mennonite Church and affiliated with the Beachy Amish Mennonite fellowship. John was an influential and widely known leader, and was one of the principal conveners of the meeting in which Amish Mennonite Aid was organized. John was noted for his executive ability and statesmanship in church matters, giving assistance to many congregations. He had a deep faith in God and this was reflected in the evangelical fervor of his messages. More than 30 Beachy Amish ministers were present at his funeral.
