Stijntgen Evertsdochter, of Deventer, a Dutch Anabaptist woman, who had also lived at Leiden and Gent, was arrested at Amsterdam in May 1552 together with some 20 other Mennonites. Most of them died as martyrs, but Stijntgen, who had not yet received baptism upon her faith, recanted and was banned from the city.
