Sona, Nicodemus Rupdhar (b. 1926)
Nicodemus Rupdhar Sona was born in a Christian home in the village of Dongania in India. He graduated from Allahabad Agricultural College in Northern Province, took teachers' training in Jabalpur, M.P. and received an MA degree in Raipur, Madhya Pradesh (M.P).
From 1957 to 1978 he taught and lectured in the Janzen Memorial Higher Secondary School in upper division. In 1979 he became principal of Joyti Higher Secondary School in Korba, M.P., and later also manager of the Mission Hindi Medium schools there. He married Ukiya Gardia in February 1943. They have three sons and two daughters.
Nicodemus was baptized in 1943 and has served the church faithfully as Sunday school teacher, church council member, treasurer of his local congregation and the Bhartiya General Conference Mennonite Conference. In 1972 he attended the Mennonite World Conference in Curitiba, Brazil; visited churches in the United States; and attended the Goals, Priority and Strategy Conference in Chicago. His influence as teacher and churchman continued in 1988.
