Snyder County Amish settlement, Pennsylvania. Several families of the "Zook Church" in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, moved to Selinsgrove in Snyder County, in 1948, when the majority voted to permit electricity. Among them were Bishop Jacob S. Peachey and two preachers, Jess and Jonathan Peachey. In 1956 the Snyder County group divided. Jonathan Peachey, with assistance from the "Zook Church" (which in 1954 affiliated with the Beachy Amish), led a separate congregation that permitted automobiles. The membership of the Old Order Amish group in 1958 was 30, and in the Beachy group 21.
