Slavgorod City Mennonite Brethren (MB) Church was founded in Slavgorod in 1914, in the center of the Slavgorod Mennonite settlement, Siberia. Worship services were originally conducted in private homes. After World War I a church was located on Sadovaya Street and later the old post office on Moscow Street was purchased and remodeled into a church. The first leading minister was Dietrich Friesen, followed by P. P. Friesen. They were assisted by Heinrich Hiebert and Gerhard Wiens. The church served the growing Mennonite population of the city of Slavgorod. Under the Soviets this church was closed. According to reports from the 1950s, Mennonites worshiped in the Baptist church of Slavgorod, which conducted some services in the German language. A report dated 8 February 1927 stated that J. Wall (MB) was working among the Russian Baptists, conducting Bible discussions and explaining the plan of salvation.
