Sharon Springs Church of God in Christ, Mennonite (Sharon Springs, Kansas, USA)
The Sharon Springs Church of God in Christ, Mennonite congregation southeast of Sharon Springs, Kansas, USA was established in 1976. The congregation started when a small group of families who had been members since the 1950s of the Scott Mennonite Church at Scott City wondered if services could be held locally. These families had to drive 60-70 miles to attend church. The Scott leadership agreed to have Sunday morning services in the area and rented the Harrison Flats School for that purpose.
In summer 1975, the group invited Vernon Giesbrecht of the Cimarron congregation to become the resident minister. The congregation was formally organized in January 1976. Construction began on a church building in 1980, with the first service on 1 March 1981.
The Western Prairie School, located in the former Harrison Flats School, began in 1989.
The congregation was last listed in the 2003 Yearbook, and presumably closed as the number of families decreased.
