Christel Schmidt, a Hutterite hymn writer, was excommunicated in 1564 on account of his views on divorce. Wolkan states that Schmidt is the author of a story about Judith. The Lieder der Hutterischen Brüder does not include him. John Horsch mentions an "Epistel an Glaus Braidl aus seinem Gefängnis 1586."
