Rich(s)t (Rixt, Ryxt), an Anabaptist martyr, also called Richt Heynes because she was the wife of Heyne Renicxzoon Schuytemaker (maker of boats), living at IJlst, Dutch province of Friesland, was arrested there on 12 October 1556, and taken to Leeuwarden, the capital of Friesland. Her husband, also a Mennonite, escaped. After she had given birth to a son in prison, Richt was tried and severely tortured and, "desiring not to part from Christ," was finally sentenced to death. On 14 March 1557, she was executed by being put in a sack and drowned. During the trial she admitted that she had been re-baptized, and had regularly taken part in the meetings of the "sectarists," that is, the Mennonites, at IJlst. Both van Braght's Martyrs' Mirror, and the Bibliographic des Martyrologes Protestants Neerlandais state that Richt was put to death about 1547, but this has been proved an error.
