Reimer, Jacob Braun (1916-1985)
Jacob Braun Reimer was born 13 September 1916 in the Altona area of Manitoba; he died 4 February 1985 in the Menno Colony, Chaco, Paraguay. In Manitoba he attended elementary school until age 10, then accompanied his parents, Jacob F. and Katharina Reimer to Paraguay in 1927. There he continued in school until age 14. In many ways he became a self-educated man. He was baptized in 1949 and married Neta Wiebe that same year. They had three daughters and one son, also adopting another son.
Reimer served as a business manager of the Menno Colony cooperative and was elected mayor (Oberschulze) in 1950, a position he held until 1967 and again, 1974-75. Later he served on the advisory committee for Indian settlements. He died while returning home from work one day. As Oberschulze he worked in close cooperation with elder Martin C. Friesen and helped bring about many reforms in the colony.
