Troy Watson, then the Associate Pastor of Bethany Mennonite Church, and his wife Tammy, began meeting with Chris and Laura Mullet Koop in the spring of 2007 to explore the possibilities of a different kind of holistic faith community in the Niagara Region for those disillusioned with conventional Christianity and unable to grow or feel connected in a conventional church setting. In Fall 2007 they started the Quest Christian Community, which met on Sunday evenings in the home of Troy and Tammy Watson. In February 2008 they began meeting in the Grace Mennonite Church in St. Catharines, but in July moved to the the Multi-Cultural Center downtown St. Catharines. Initially between 12 and 20 adults regularly attended. Participants also began to meet on alternative Mondays in a pub to discuss faith and life, inviting others there to join them in the discussion.

In April 2009 Quest began renting, renovating and meeting at 145 King Street in St. Catharines. It has been used for the Quest Community and in January 2010 also opened as an art house for the downtown city area featuring an art gallery, a location for alternative films and a small concert venue under the name "145" (onefortyfive). This project ended in 2012 due to the lack financial resources. The group then began to meet at St. Thomas’ Anglican Church on Ontario Street in St. Catharines.

The "Collective" held Sunday evenings has been the primary community event, and has included an informal "finger food" meal, interactive worship, special activities for children, and a time of teaching of dialogue. In 2010 the average attendance on a Sunday night was about 40, with 25-30 adults and 10-20 children.

Quest Christian Community ended its formal congregational program in July 2018.
