Plum Coulee Bergthaler Mennonite Church (Plum Coulee, Manitoba, Canada)
The Plum Coulee Bergthaler Mennonite congregation began after Mennonites first moved into the Plum Coulee area in the 1890s. In 1897 the Bergthaler Lehrdienst assigned two men to visit the families in the area. By 1904 some worship services were held in the local school building. From then until 1925 they met in various rented facilities. In 1925 the congregation purchased the Baptist meeting house in Plum Coulee. In the 1940s this building was expanded, with a subsequent building program in 1958. J. J. Hooge is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through division from the Sommerfelder Mennonites.
The language of worship is English; the transition from German occurred in the 1960s.
In November 2014 the church withdrew from Mennonite Church Manitoba and Mennonite Church Canada, citing the erosion of the authority of God's Word.
