Pleasant View Mennonite Church (North Lawrence, Ohio, USA)
Pleasant View Mennonite Church (Mennonite Church), North Lawrence, Ohio, dates back to 1837, when a group of 36 from Farmersville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, settled in the vicinity, arriving there after fifteen days of travel by Conestoga wagons and buggies. Family names included Horst, Eschliman, Dague, Doll, Shisler, Oberlin, Hartel, Keffer, and Buchwalter. The land was homesteaded in 1811 and some of the old deeds, still preserved, bear the signature of President James Madison. The first church building was erected in 1856. Ministers who have served the church in order of succession are Henry Martin, Jr., and Benjamin Horst (ordained 1857), Michael Horst (1877), I. J. Buchwalter (1893), Alva Wengard (1935), Elmer E. Yoder (1952), and David E. Hostetler (1953). In 1956 the membership was 91, with Elmer E. Yoder as minister.
