Pauls (Pauels, Pauwels, Paulsen), a family name common among Mennonites of Prusso-Russian back ground which was found in the Danzig and Prussian Mennonite churches as early as 1621; e.g., [[Thiensdorf and Preußisch Rosengart Mennonite Church (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Poland)|Thiensdorf]], Orloff, [[Danzig (Poland)|Danzig]], [[Elbing (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Poland)|Elbing]], Konigsberg, [[Montau (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland)|Montau-Gruppe]], Kazun, and [[Heubuden (Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland)|Heubuden]]. The origin of the name is Paulsen (son). Heinrich Pauls was a minister of the Mennonite Church in [[Galicia (Poland &amp; Ukraine)|Galicia]]. In the late 1950s, Jacob M. Pauls was co-elder of the Bergthal Mennonite Church of Manitoba and Wilhelm Pauls, founder of the [[Didsbury (Alberta, Canada)|Didsbury ]]Bible School, Alberta, was a minister.
