Parnell Mennonite Church (Mennonite Church) was established in 1948 as a mission under the West Union Mennonite Church. It became an independent congregation in 1958 with approximately 55 members. An abandoned Methodist church was purchased for $800 and moved into town for the use of the congregation in 1950. Previously, meetings were held in homes.

Paul E. M. Yoder and John Miller Yoder were its ministers.

The congregation faced controversy in the late 1960s when its minister, Paul E. M. Yoder, sought to admit as members persons who had been divorced and remarried. This led to debate in the Iowa-Nebraska Mennonite Conference and resulted in the departure of the West Fairview congregation from the conference.

Services ended at Parnell in 1990. The remaining members transferred to West Union Mennonite and Wellman Mennonite
