Overholt, John D. (1797-1878)

John D. Overholt (1797-1878), a great-grandson of Martin Oberholtzer of Frankfurt am Main, Germany, who immigrated to America and settled near Deep Run, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was ordained as minister in 1830 for the church in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. In 1833 he was ordained bishop. In his work as bishop he made annual trips as far west as Columbiana County, Ohio. In 1857 Henry Yother (1810-1900) was ordained bishop to assist Overholt.
