Ossweil, a town in the Markgroningen district of Württemberg, Germany. In 1559 the Anabaptist Simon Kraushaar of Neckargroningen confessed in cross-examination at Kirchheim-Teck that his baptized daughter Walburga was serving at Ossweil in the home of his brother's son Joseph Kraushaar. In 1570 the Wiedertäuferkalender appeared and named some recanting Anabaptists of Ossweil, including Godelburga, an old, ill, unteachable Anabaptist woman; in 1571 the Urfehde of Jakob Gantz of Ossweil, who promised diligent attendance at church; likewise Alexander Widmann, called Weber. In 1573 Ossweil is "still the same old nest. The known Anabaptists cannot be found, slip out and in secretly" in spite of all surveillance. In 1574 the pastor of Zuffenhausen announced, "In Ossweil several Anabaptists are staying," and the prelate of Maulbronn reported: "Last summer nearly all sectarian persons moved away." In 1575 he wrote that Maria Weber attended no church, much less communion, was unreachable. In 1576 the prelate named several others who disregarded communion; the dean had summoned them to the Rathaus and had received several promises to recant. Similarly in 1577 two women were still "stiff-necked"; in 1578 they were summoned to Stuttgart. In 1583 Maria Weber was attending no church; in 1586 after a term in prison she promised to reform. In 1608 she was again arrested, in 1609 likewise, in 1610 was given up as unteachable, in 1612 she finally recanted.
