Nikolayevka Mennonite Brethren Church (Bachmut Mennonite Settlement, DnipropetrovskOblast, Ukraine)
The Nikolayevka Mennonite Brethren Church, located in the Bachmut Mennonite Settlement (New York), province of Ekaterinoslav, South Russia, was founded in 1889 by Mennonites coming from the Chortitza settlement. The congregation was at first affiliated with the Einlage Mennonite Brethren Church under the leadership of Gerhard Regehr. It became independent in 1905, when Hermann A. Neufeld was ordained elder. Other ministers who served the congregation were Cornelius Grunau, who later immigrated to the United States, Abraham Pätkau, Paul Wiebe, Johann Schellenberg, Johann Siemens, Peter Wiebe, David Block, Wilhelm Klassen, Peter Janzen, Peter Krause, Johann Froese, Johann Klassen, Peter Siemens. In 1905 the total population of the congregation was 501 and the number of baptized members was 146. For a while the Mennonites and the Mennonite Brethren worshiped at the same place on alternate Sundays. In 1923 Hermann A. Neufeld immigrated to Canada and a number of other members followed. Little is known of the congregation after this date. So far as is known, the congregation survived the troubles of the 1920s and 1930s but its fate was sealed during World War II.
