Mukoso Mbavu (b. 1930)
Mukoso Mbavu was born at the village of Tshenda, Belgian Congo (Democratic Republic of Congo). He converted to Jesus Christ (1943) and was baptized. He received a certificate from primary school (1950), attended the Kikwit high school, and received a certificate from the Mennonite Brethren Bible Institute in Kikwit (1962). In 1952 he married and subsequently became the father of seven living children. Mukoso was a teacher and Sunday school and congregational secretary (1950-1960), then served as secretary of the Mennonite Brethren conference (Communauté des Églises de Frères Mennonites au Congo), 1961-1974. In the latter capacity he traveled to visit churches in all Mennonite Brethren conference districts. At the same time he was deacon in charge of local church finances and a Sunday school teacher. From 1974 to 1979 Mukoso was assistant treasurer and accountant for the Mennonite Brethren conference and then served as head of the conference personnel department, while continuing as local deacon and prayer group leader. After 1984 Mukoso served as a garage and carpenter shop foreman, but continued his position as deacon and effective prayer group leader.
