The Mountain View Rest Home in Aroda, Virginia, USA had its beginning in 1962 when Harvey Yoder opened his former house to "guests" for $35 per month. The concept of a "rest home"in Madison County Virginia was first broached by Arthur Harris, a retired Methodist minister in 1961 to Noah Keim, pastor of the Oak Grove Mennonite Church.

Renie Jarrell became the first guest in Yoder's facility on 29 March 1962. Within a short time the rest home became explicitly linked to the Oak Grove congregation when a board was established in June 1962. The first board members were Harvey Yoder, Manager; Samuel Hochstetler, Builder; and Joe Overholt, Secretary/Treasurer. J. Elmer Yoder joined later. A building adjacent to Yoder's old house was purchased and renovated in 1962, providing space for 12 guests. Amish Mennonite Aid and the Mission Interest Committee of the Beachy Amish Mennonite Fellowship provided some interest-free loans for the project. A new wing was added in 1963 that allowed for up to 24 guests.

The first of many volunteers came in September 1963. Another wing was added in 1965. Eli and Katie Helmuth replaced Harvey Yoder as administrator at the end of 1967. Owen Yoder became administrator in 1969.

The name of the facility changed to Mountain View Nursing Home about 1970. In 1980 the Home was incorporated, and in 1982 nurses aides and orderlies began to receive mandatory certified training. In 1990 Mountain View Nursing Home began to provide assistance for staff members who wished nurses' training.

Eldon Hochstetler followed Owen Yoder as administrator in 1987; he served until September 2015. By the late 1980s it was clear a new facility was required to meet modern nursing home standards. Construction of a new dorm for volunteers and staff began in the early 2000s. The nursing facility itself was completely rebuilt by 2007, after earlier efforts at renovating the existing facility did not meet state standards.

From 1962 to 2018 more than 1,000 staff persons, many of them doing voluntary service, served over 700 residents. In 2019 the volunteers included young people from conservative Mennonite, Beachy, and Amish churches across the United States, Canada, and other countries. At any one time there were approximately 35 young people on staff volunteering as certified nurse aides, dietary aides, maintenance, janitors, laundry, housekeeping, and office personnel. Most of the volunteers served for 12-18 months. They received the training for their positions, a minimal allowance, and dormitory-style room and board during their stay. A portion of the income generated as a result of having volunteer help at the home supported various mission organizations, primarily Amish Mennonite Aid (AMA), Mission Interests Committee (MIC), and Costa Rica Missions.

Beginning in October 2015 the administrator at Mountain View Nursing Home has been Trent Clugston.
