Mount Vernon Mennonite Church (Grottoes, Virginia, USA)
Mount Vernon Mennonite Church (Mennonite Church USA), 13188 Port Republic Rd., at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, near Port Republic, Rockingham County, VA. Services were begun here in an abandoned church building, 20 x 60 ft., in January 1954. The 1956 membership was 26, of whom 17 were natives of this rural community populated mostly by descendants of English settlers. The congregation is part of the Middle District of the Virginia Mennonite Conference. In 1956 the three weekly worship services and other activities for the various age groups were under the direction of the pastor, Hubert R. Pellman, and four non-native married couples.
In 2005 membership was 77, with pastoral leadership provided by Alvin M. Huyard and Rose Huyard.
