Monte Alegre Church of God in Christ, Mennonite (Rio Verde, Goiás, Brazil)
The Monte Alegre Church of God in Christ, Mennonite congregation near Rio Verde, Goiás, Brazil was launched in 1968 when the Dick Toews and Denton Burns families moved to Brazil to help launch a mission outreach. The first investigations had taken place in 1967, but these families had the first permanent visas.
The initial families lived in a large farmhouse six km. from Anápolis as they looked for a place to settle. In February 1969 land was purchased between two streams that emptied into the Monte Alegre River. Two families moved there in June, and the first services were held 8 June 1969. John N. Penner was the first ordained minister to serve in the congregation.
Construction on the permanent church building began in August 1972, with the first service held in the building in February 1973.
In 2019 the congregation was part of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. The ministers were CHester Hibner, Arlo Hibner and Edinei da Silva Alves; there were 124 members.
