Mennonite Boys League (General Conference Mennonite Church)
The Mennonite Boys League, an organization for boys 9 to 14 years old of the General Conference Mennonite Church, came into existence through appointment in 1954 of a Boys Work Committee by Mennonite Men, the Conference Laymen's organization. The members of this committee were Erwin C. Goering, Clinton Kaufman, and Menno Schrag. The League began to function in August 1955 when the first unit of some 25 boys was established in the First Mennonite Church of Newton, Kansas. Other units soon followed in Pennsylvania and Indiana—with manifest interest throughout the conference. The purpose of the League was "to carry out an intensive program of wholesome activities geared to the interest of young boys; to lead boys into a saving relationship with Christ; to foster consistent Christian living, and instill the Mennonite faith as founded on the Word of God."
