John P. Mast (1826-11 June 1888) was born near Elverson, Pennsylvania, and was a lifelong resident of Caernarvon Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He was a great-grandson of Bishop Jacob Mast and was himself an able and faithful leader in the same district where his great grandfather had served for 22 years. As a preacher he was practical and eloquent. He drew his lessons from everyday life and had a wide acquaintance in Amish Mennonite circles in both the United States and Canada. He was married to Anna Zook, but had no children. He was ordained to the ministry in his thirties by a unanimous vote from his congregation. He died 11 June 1888. His name was for many years a household word throughout his community.
