Maple Avenue Mennonite Church (Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA)
The Milwaukee Mennonite Fellowship began in 1974 in association with an older Hispanic mission outreach by the Illinois Mennonite Conference of the Mennonite Church (MC). In 1982 the congregation moved to Waukesha, an older city west of Milwaukee. It changed its name to Maple Avenue Mennonite Church in 1987 after the congregation purchased a large Victorian residence.
In 1996, The Illinois Conference of the Mennonite Church narrowly defeated a resolution at its annual sessions calling for the expulsion of Maple Avenue and Oak Park Mennonite because of their positions on homosexuality. The two congregations accepted as members noncelibate homosexuals in covenanted, monogamous relationships. The delegate vote was just short of the two-thirds majority needed. The following year the conference did suspend the privileges of the two congregations until 2002.
The Maple City Mennonite Church dissolved as a corporate entity in May 2011.
