Mahieu (Hieu) de Swarte, youngest son of the martyr Jan de Swarte, an Anabaptist martyr, was burned at the stake probably on 27 April 1563 at Rijssel (Lille) in France. He had been arrested at Halewijn, Flanders, on 7 March 1563, together with his parents, his brothers Claes, Christiaen, and Hans, and other members of the congregation. These Mennonites and also his father were put to death on 16 March at Rijssel (Lille) in France, while his mother and his three brothers suffered martyrdom with him, all remaining steadfast. Mahieu was only 16 years of age when he died.
