Lopes, Willem Klaasz (17th/18th century)
Willem Klaasz Lopes published Ontleding der Christelyke Kerken-order ende deszelfs Ampten, waar in het Gebruyk en Misbruyk der zelver wert aangewezen (Amsterdam, 1699). In this book and in his Antwoord op eenige Vragen, die op myn Ontleding zyn voorgekomen (Amsterdam, 1699) he attacked the Reformed views on the church and its offices, as defended by D. Bakkamude and Johannes Smetius, the latter (1636-1704) being a Reformed minister at Amsterdam. Of Lopes there was no further information available. He probably lived at Amsterdam and belonged to the Zonist congregation. The [[Amsterdam Mennonite Library (Bibliotheek en Archief van de Vereenigde Doopsgezinde Gemeente te Amsterdam)|Amsterdam Mennonite Archives]] possess a manuscript copied by Marten Schagen which contains a philosophical debate between W. Reimarus and Lopes. Lopes also seems to have written a number of pamphlets published in 1664-1665 during the Lammerenkrijg, in which he took the side of Apostool and the Zonists against Galenus Abrahamsz and the Lamists.
