Lauwereyns Claesz was an Anabaptist martyr who was burned at the stake with two other Anabaptists on 28 June 1553 at Leeuwarden, capital of the Dutch province of Friesland. Lauwereyns was sentenced to death because he was (re) baptized and persisted in his "heresy." He was of the opinion "that all which is done in the (Catholic) Church is idolatry."
