The Lammerenkrijgh (War of the Lambs) is the name of the dispute which broke out soon after 1650 in the Flemish Lamist congregation (bij 't Lam) in Amsterdam on the question whether the Flemish was the (only) true church and whether or not a confession is essential to salvation. The older party in the church was opposed to Galenus Abrahamsz and his Collegiant ideas. While Galenus and his followers stressed "life" rather than doctrine, the conservative party held to the unabridged confession of faith. Thus the lamentable strife ensued, which first split the Amsterdam church and then burst apart the recently won unification of the Mennonites in all Holland (see Amsterdam Lamist Mennonite Church). Conflicts at Rotterdam and Utrecht, like the Amsterdam quarrel, had as early as 1660-1661 ended in a victory for the conservatives.

This quarrel has become known in history as the "Lammerenkrijgh." The name is a derisive epithet for the unpleasant bickering of the lambs of God, borrowed from one of the innumerable polemics of the time.
