Gerardus Kulenkamp (b. Bremen, 1700, d. Amsterdam, 1775) was a Reformed minister from 1725, serving Amsterdam in 1733-1775. He attacked the Moravian Brethren in three books. In the first of these, De naakt ontdekte enthousiasterij, geest-driverij, en bedorven mystikerij der zo genaamde Hernhuthers (Amsterdam, 1739-40, 2 vols.), he also accused the Mennonites of heterodoxy. In a paper published by Kulenkamp in the periodical De Boekzaal (October 1740) he sharply accused Joannes Deknatel, the Mennonite minister at Amsterdam, of having forsaken the basic creed of the Mennonites as summarized in the Oprecht Verbondt van Eenigheyd of 1664, and of teaching Socinian heresies. Many Mennonites, including Deknatel, were at this time much in sympathy with the Moravians. Kulenkamp's charges against the Moravian Brethren and the Mennonites were refuted in a Brief aan een Vriend (Amsterdam, 1740) by an anonymous author, who signed his work as "Irenaphilus," and who was apparently a Mennonite.
