Kroeker, a Prussian Mennonite name, was first recorded in [[Tiegenhagen (Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland)|Tiegenhagen]] in 1627. The name occurred in the following congregations and communities: [[Danzig (Poland)|Danzig]], [[Ladekopp (Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland)|Ladekopp]], Rosenort, [[Fürstenwerder (Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland)|Fürstenwerder]], [[Heubuden (Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland)|Heubuden]], [[Elbing (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Poland)|Elbing]], and [[Königsberg (Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia)|Königsberg]], and from here spread to [[Poland|Poland]], [[Russia|Russia]], and North and [[South America|South America]]. In 1940 there were only about 40 Mennonites bearing this name in its various forms in East [[Germany|Germany]]. Well-known representatives of this name were Isaac Kroeker, elder (1767-1787) of the Königsberg Mennonite congregation, Jakob Kroeker, elder of the [[Elbing (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Poland)|Elbing]] Mennonite Church (1808-1846), [[Kroeker, Jakob (1872-1948)|Jakob Kroeker]] of Russia and Germany, Abraham J. Kroeker of Russia and [[Mountain Lake Christian School (Mountain Lake, Minnesota, USA)|Mountain Lake]], Minnesota, and [[Kroeker, Martin Abram (1900-1973)|M. A. Kroeker]], longtime Mennonite Brethren minister at the [[Silver Lake Mennonite Brethren Church (Dolton, South Dakota, USA) |Silver Lake Mennonite Brethren Church]] and later Executive Secretary of the denomination's Board of General Welfare and Publish Relations.
