Jakob Kliewer (1743-1827): Elder of the Frisian Mennonite Church of Danzig; born 7 January 1743 in Tiegenhof, West Prussia, the son of Heinrich Kliewer (31 May 1709, Danzig - 4 January 1766, Tiegenhof, West Prussia) and Adelgunde (Hekker) Kliewer (29 October 1702, Danzig - 30 December 1767, Tiegenhof, West Prussia). Jakob married Debora Jantzen (3 December 1742, Danzig - 17 March 1796, Danzig), daughter of Jacob Jantzen (1735-1771) and Debora (Harms) Jantzen, on 18 July 1765 in Danzig. Jakob and Debora had 10 children, of which five lived to adulthood: Adelgunde, Heinrich, Maria, Abraham, and Elisabeth. Jakob's second wife was Sara Von Duehren (23 December 1773, Danzig - 19 December 1820, Danzig), daughter of Jacob Van Duehren (1729-1781) and Elisabeth Claassen (1744-1808), whom he married on 30 May 1797. Jakob and Sara had four children, of which three lived to adulthood: Jacob, Jeanette, and Friedrich. Jakob died on 5 October 1826 in Danzig.

Jakob served as Elder of the Frisian Mennonite Church of Danzig from 1798 to 1808 continued in this capacity as co-Elder with Peter Tiessen, Sr. when the Flemish and Frisian congregations united in 1808. He died 5 October 1827. After his death and the death of Peter Tiessen, Jr., Jacob van der Smissen became elder and the change from the lay ministry to the theologically trained ministry was completed.
