Kaufman, Isaac (1807-1886)

Isaac Kaufman was an Amish Mennonite philanthropist of northern Somerset County near Johnstown, Pennsylvania, who owned considerable stock in the Pennsylvania Railroad and was one of the directors of an early bank in Johnstown. He was widely sought for his sound financial advice and the large number of private loans he made to Amish settlers in this area. The Kaufman Amish Mennonite Church near Davidsville, Pennsylvania, was named in his honor. He died 17 October 1886, aged 79. (Register of Wills, Somerset County courthouse)
