Kaltern (Italian: Caldaro sulla Strada del Vino) is a town (1957 population 4,000; 2004 population 7,200) located in southern Tyrol, Austria (now Italy), on the right side of the Adige Valley, 10 miles (16 km) south of Bozen (Bolzano). In the vicinity of Kaltern, Jörg Zaunring worked in 1528; in 1533 he suffered martyrdom near Bamberg. According to a register of the Hutterite congregations of 1581, four Anabaptists were executed for their faith in Kaltern.
