The Indo-Canadian Community Church began its preparatory work in 1994. After two years of evangelism, the group held their first service on 7 April 1996 at the Panorama Ministry Centre. In September 1996 the group moved its worship service to the Kennedy Heights Mennonite Brethren Church. David and Sharmila McLauren are considered the founding leaders of the group. The congregation originated from outreach by the British Columbia Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches Board of Church Extension, and targeted second generation Indo Canadians, using English, Hindi, and Punjabi in the worship service. In 2000 the congregation had 20 members.

Pastor David McLauren served until 2002 as a congregational leader. In 2002, after McLauren's resignation, the congregation was invited to merge with the Kennedy Heights Mennonite Brethren Church where they had been meeting.
