Iglesia Menonita Encuentro de Renovación (Miami, Florida, USA)
The Iglesia Menonita Encuentro de Renovación (Encounter for Renewal Mennonite Church), in Miami, Florida, USA is composed of Latin American immigrants from different countries, including Colombia, Honduras, Argentina, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and the United States. The church began in 1998 under the leadership of Gamaliel Fallas and Marco Güete.
The congregation which meets for worship every Sunday morning has also provided counseling to immigrants, as well as food and lodging for up to two months to newly arrived immigrants. The church has also supplied food, school supplies, and grooming tools for immigrant children who are part of a support group called Casa Hogar.
The church has been deeply committed to the social reality that surrounds it, expressing the love of God and an evangelical call to others. Members have regularly visited persons in prisons and hospitals.
In 2020 the pastor was José Andrés Mendoza. He said his congregation was called to taking care of the faith community, helping immigrants, and providing hope and trust in God.
Initially, the congregation was part of the Southeast Mennonite Conference, but that regional conference withdrew from Mennonite Church USA to become a district of LMC (Lancaster Mennonite Conference). Iglesia Menonita Encuentro de Renovación, along with seven other congregations, chose to affiliate with the Mosaic Mennonite Conference that remained part of Mennonite Church USA.
