Horst, ter, family

Ter Horst is a Dutch Mennonite family, originally living at Hengelo, province of Overijssel, where its members together with the ten Cate family, predominated in the congregation during the 18th century. About 1600 Jan ter Horst at Hengelo was a Mennonite and a weaver by trade. At the beginning of the 18th century the meetings of the congregation were regularly held in the house of Berend ter Horst, also a weaver. Many of this family were deacons, among whom should be mentioned Abraham ter Horst (1715-1779), who was a pillar of the congregation. Since the end of the18th century members of this family have spread all over the Netherlands.
