Ter Horst is a Dutch Mennonite family, originally living at [[Hengelo (Overijssel, Netherlands)|Hengelo]], province of [[Overijssel (Netherlands)|Overijssel]], where its members together with the [[Cate, ten, family|ten Cate family]], predominated in the congregation during the 18th century. About 1600 Jan ter Horst at Hengelo was a Mennonite and a weaver by trade. At the beginning of the 18th century the meetings of the congregation were regularly held in the house of Berend ter Horst, also a weaver. Many of this family were deacons, among whom should be mentioned Abraham ter Horst (1715-1779), who was a pillar of the congregation.
