Karl Wilhelm Hermann Hochhuth (1823-1893) was a Protestant theologian. In his studies in church history one of his interests concerned the brotherhoods outside the state church at the time of the Reformation. With his "Mitteilungen aus der protestantischen Secten-Geschichte in der hessischen Kirche," which he published in the Zeitschrift für die historische Theologie (1858, 538-644; 1859, 167-234; and 1860, 258-284), he made the first attempt to present an account of the [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] movement in a German state based on court records. It was his aim to do justice to the significance of the Anabaptist movement for the Hessian state church. In this study he was able to correct many errors and omissions in former publications. On the other hand various errors crept into his copies of the records, which have in part been rectified by Lenz. Hochhuth's work offers a wealth of material on the history of the Anabaptist movement in the 16th century that has frequently been made use of in the literature on church history.

On the other hand various errors crept into his copies of the records, which have in part been rectified by Lenz. Hochhuth's work offers a wealth of material on the history of the Anabaptist movement in the 16th century that has frequently been made use of in the literature on church history.
