Helferich, Franz Joseph (1806-1881)

Franz Joseph Helferich, once a Catholic priest, became a Protestant pastor at Beedenkirchen, Hesse, Germany. He wrote the booklet, Die Kindertaufe oder eine offenherzige Ansprache an die Mennoniten Deutschlands von einem Freunde des HinansKommens zu einerlei Glaube und Erkenntnis des Sohnes Gottes (Mainz, 1865), of 28 pages, in which he discusses baptism from the Protestant viewpoint and makes an unskilled attempt to refute the Mennonite position, and then urges the Mennonites to join the state church in order to strengthen it in its common struggle against Rationalism.
