Hege, Christine (1871-1942)

Christine Hege, wife of Christian Hege was born 23 July 1871, in Grombach, Baden, near Sinsheim, daughter of Heinrich Fellmann, married Christian Hege in 1895. Of unusual intellectual and spiritual gifts, she was an intimate colleague of her husband in his work as a Mennonite historian. Herself learned in Mennonite history, she won the prize offered in 1908 by the Vereinigung der Mennonitengemeinden im Deutschen Reich for a general book on Mennonite history with her Kurze Geschichte der Mennoniten (Altona, 1909). She died 3 March 1942 in Frankfurt a.M. at Rothschildallee 33, where she had spent most of her married life.
