Hays Gospel Chapel began services in 1986, and formally organized in 1988. The first building was occupied in 1986. The congregation originated through outreach by the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church. The congregation held its last service on 8 November 2009 and officially closed at the end of that year. Attendance had dropped in the years leading up to the congregation's closure, and the church was unable to find a replacement for Helmut Isaak, who had resigned in June 2007. The congregation had a membership of 38 when it closed, with most members transferring to Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church.
