Gries, Anthony de (d. 1696)

Anthony de Gries was a preacher in the Dompelaar congregation in Hamburg-Altona, Beginning in 1661 he argued orally and in writing with Bastiaan van Weenighem, the Mennonite preacher at Rotterdam, but in vain. He also added an appendix to the attack of his friend Johann Arent, Eindelyche verklaringe (1668) against Bastiaan van Weenighem. The gradual decline of die Hamburg Dompelaars seems to have led him to return to his native Holland, where he died in 1696.
