Greif, Hans (16th century)

Hans Greif, an Anabaptist emissary, was a beltmaker and citizen of Salzburg, Austria. He was baptized by Leonhard Schiemer, and sent out by Hans Hut in 1527 to preach the Gospel. But he was soon captured by the Salzburg authorities. His fate is not known. The frequent and sometimes sharpened mandates of the Archbishop of Salzburg against the Anabaptists lead to the surmise that he died a martyr.
