Gospel Church of God in Christ Mennonite Church (Barron, Wisconsin, USA)
The Gospel Church of God in Christ, Mennonite congregation north of Almena, Wisconsin, USA was established in 1957. The congregation started when families from Michigan and Kansas began to purchase dairy farms in Barron County. The Colonization Board of the denomination also investigated the area. The congregation was formally organized in October 1957.
Initially, families met in homes. In 1957 the group began to meet in a small building in Almena. In 1958 the congregation purchased the Collingwood School eight miles northwest of Barron. In 1962 the congregation began to build a new building on donated land 2.5 miles north of Almena. It was dedicated on 14 April 1963. An addition was completed in 1967. A new building was erected in 1993 north of the old church; it was dedicated on 19 June 1994.
The Gospel congregation launched the Barron Mennonite Church as a daughter group in 1973 when growth again taxed the size of the building. In 1991, with continued growth, the congregation gave birth to the Hillcrest congregation.
The Gospel Mennonite School began in 1975.
In 2020 the congregation was part of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. The ministers were Tom Millsap, Gino Genetin, and Arlen Wiggers.
