Good News Mennonite Church began services and formally organized in 1994. Ed Teichroew and Trevor Hutchins are considered the founding leaders of the group. The congregation originated through division from the Home Street Mennonite Church over matters of biblical interpretation, women in ministry and affiliation with the Conference of Mennonites in Canada.

In 2002 the congregation was independent, with no link to a larger conference.
