Golden Plains Church of God in Christ, Mennonite (Madrid, Nebraska, USA)
The Golden Plains Church of God in Christ, Mennonite congregation in Madrid, Nebraska, USA was established in 1975. The congregation started when families from Alberta, Canada, and Mississippi moved to the area in search of opportunities for farming.
The early families worshipped in homes beginning in January 1974. Then for a time, they used the former First Mennonite Church in Madrid. In 1979 land was purchased west of Madrid and construction on a new church began. The dedication service was held on 24 May 1981.
The Golden Plains Mennonite School began about the same time but involved many negotiations with the Nebraska Board of Education. Initially, teachers obtained temporary certificates, but later in the 1980s regulations allowed a broader range of Christian schools and homeschooling.
In 2020 the congregation was part of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. The ministers were Rod Frank, Shawn Becker, and Ray Frank.
