Gifts for Relief (Organization)

Gifts for Relief began as a registered nonprofit organization in 2016. Daniel Stoltzfus, a member of the Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Old Order Amish community developed a keen interest in the material resources distributed by Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) and Christian Aid Ministries (CAM). He assembled a board of directors from the Old Order Amish and Beachy Amish communities and began purchasing specific items needed by the various kits disturbed by MCC and CAM. Kit materials included items for school kits, relief kits, hygiene kits and infant care kits. Gifts for Relief purchased items at wholesale prices and passed the savings along to those buying the kit materials and assembling the kits.

According to its mission statement, “Gifts for Relief provides relief kits (as funds are available) to be distributed to families that are stricken by poverty, disease, nature disaster and other crisis situations.”

While Gifts for Relief initially served Plain communities in and around Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the service has expanded to provide kit supplies to other communities.

Gifts for Relief developed beside the family business of the Daniel Stoltzus family, Pequea Planters. In 2019, the board considered a larger and more permanent home at a nearby location.
