Ghysbert Jansz (d. 1549)

Ghysbert Jansz, a Dutch Anabaptist martyr, burned at the stake at Amsterdam on 20 March 1549. He was a native of the town of Woerden, province of South Holland, and had been baptized by Gillis van Aken. Together with Ghysbert seven other martyrs, five men and two women, were put to death. They are celebrated in a song, "Tis nu schier al vervult ons broeders getal" (The number of our brethren is now almost complete), which is found in <em>Veelderhande Liedekens</em> of 1556, 1566, and later editions.
