Gerritsz, Dirk (1565-1626)

Dirk Gerritsz was a Mennonite preacher of the Frisian congregation in Wormerveer, Dutch province of North Holland, for many years. After his death a volume of his writings was published, containing two devotional tracts and a number of songs. The (abridged) title reads as follows: Twee corte vermaen brieven . . . aen sijn Kinderen, met drie Schriftuerlijcke Liedekens (Hoorn, 1629). He must have been a capable and very influential leader far beyond his home church. By trade he was a merchant. Of his six sons two were deacons and two preachers of the Wormerveer Frisian congregation. His youngest son was Oom Jacob Dirksz.
