Gerrit Dirksz (d. 1553)
Gerrit Dirksz (Gerrit Wevers or Gerrit the Weaver), an Anabaptist martyr, was sentenced to death at Amsterdam on 16 January 1553. He was a native of "Raesdorp," probably a town in Münsterland, Germany, rather than Ransdorp near Amsterdam. He had been (re)baptized and confessed that he had heard Gillis van Aken preach twice. Because he recanted he was not burned at the stake, but beheaded.
